On March 6, 2025, an Expert Dialogue on the topic ‘Central Asia + Japan: Current Trends and Prospects’ was held in Astana.
The Expert Dialogue was organized jointly by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan.
The agenda of the meeting included discussions on perspective areas of cooperation within the format of Central Asia + Japan.
The meeting was attended by heads and experts of scientific and analytical institutions of Central Asian countries and Japan.
Khairidin Usmonzoda, Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, took part in the event from the Tajik side in the online format. At the same time, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in Kazakhstan, Ibodzoda Khairullo, aloso took part in it.
Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Khairidin Usmonzoda made a report in first discussion: Approaches of Central Asian Countries to Cooperation with Japan on the topic ‘Central Asia-Japan format — the key to economic success and constructive regional dialogue’
Khairidin Usmonzoda emphasized that ‘the dialogue “Central Asia + Japan” is an important platform for our interaction.
During his speech, the Director of the Centre noted that ‘attraction of Japanese investments in the economy of Tajikistan remains the most important area of cooperation. Moreover, co-operation with Japan in the field of energy and green technologies becoming a strategically important direction’.
It was noted that ‘the implementation of joint projects in the field of “green” and digital economy, water resources and energy creation of joint industrial enterprises using advanced technologies of Japan in free economic zones allows to increase the export of environmentally friendly products of Tajikistan and the creation of logistics centers. This contributes to solving environmental problems and improving energy security, which is especially important in the context of climate change and the growing need for efficient use of natural resources’.
Also, the Director drew attention to the issues of education and science. In particular, he noted that ‘taking into account the prospects for further development, cooperation in the educational sphere can be expanded by increasing quotas for Tajik students to study in leading Japanese universities, implementation of joint research projects, exchange of teachers and specialists. We as a research center are ready for full-scale cooperation in this direction. In addition, Japanese educational programs and scholarship initiatives open new opportunities for Tajik youth, which in the long term contributes to strengthening the human resources potential of the country’.
The Director of the Centre then emphasized that ‘the development of cooperation in the field of tourism seems to be a promising area of cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan’.
At the end of his speech, the Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan noted that ‘Tajikistan remains open for cooperation and is ready to implement new joint projects that will benefit both our countries and the region as a whole’.
